Mesa County was exciting for us this year as it is every year.
It’s neat having the chance to connect with so many of our friends—some we see often and others that we usually see at the fair.
We had a new family this year that purchased two does for 4-H and wanted to show them in the doe classes at the fair.
McKenzie had never shown a goat before, but you wouldn’t know it by watching her. She did quite a good job at it. Here she is showing her first little doe — Pistachio.
We kept Pistachio’s sister Key Lime as we think that both of these little does will grow and mature very nicely.
This is McKenzie showing her second doe: Vanna. You can see her concentration as she has Vanna standing perfectly.
Vanna took second in her doe class and you can see from the expression on McKenzie’s face that she is quite happy about that!
Congratulations to McKenzie as she did a great job for her first year in showing. We hope all goes well for her and her family in raising these two little beauties.
Next were the Market Goat classes and as always at Mesa County, they were quite large. There seems to be a lot of goats in the area which is a good thing.
Jaiden, a returning customer, is a seasoned showman and a darn good one at that! We are always on our toes with anticipation when he enters the ring with his animal.
Here he is showing Garnet.
Jaiden and Garnet took 3rd place in their class of market goats which is quite good considering how many animals there are in each class!
Jaiden picked out Garnet when he first came to the ranch this year but his favorite doe, Wild Card, had not had her babies yet.
Jaiden wanted to wait for her baby even though it was going to be later than usual for the birth, making her baby younger than a lot of the wethers he would be competing against.
As usual, Wild Card came through and had a beautiful big boy born the end of January that we named Bingo. Jaiden was delighted.
This was the third year in a row that Jaiden had picked one of Wild Card’s babies and for two years in a row, he took 2nd place with them. Here is Jaiden showing Bingo.
The judge started pulling goats out of the line up one by one, but Jaiden and Bingo were still in the running. Finally, the judge ended up with only three goats and their owners standing before her in the line up.
Since Jaiden and Bingo were still there, we knew they had to be either third, second or first. The dust has settled, everyone is holding their breath and the judge made her decision.
In first place stands Jaiden and Bingo!
A big thank you to Jaiden and his wonderful family for the great care they give their animals. They know how to feed, train, trim, wash and show. It’s a pleasure to have them purchase our goats!
