This year’s Mesa County Fair was really exciting!
The judge and the announcer moved things right along, so that when one class was done, the other was already lined up to come in. There was very little downtime between classes, which made the afternoon fast-paced and fun to watch.
We wanted to take time out to congratulate all the ribbon winners this year. It takes a lot of work and time to prepare these animals for show, and we applaud all the kids who did so well.
Best in Showmanship
One of the first classes was the Junior Showmanship, and we were thrilled to see one of our customers, Max, take Grand Champion Junior Showmanship! That’s him in the first picture above with his wether, Jif, and his ribbon.
Here’s Max showing his wether in the class. (We’ve noted the parentage of each young goat—you can refer to the buck and doe pages for more information.)
His win entitled him to help judge the parent class.
He looked a little uncomfortable out there at first, but then quickly slid into the role, congratulating Jake, here, who came in second.
With the fine assistance of their 4-H owners, many of the goats from the Swan View Ranch placed in their classes.
Here is Asa with Mork who took 5th place in Market Class #2.
Hailey took 3rd place here with Crunchy in Market Class #1.
Judah took 4th place in Market Class #1 with Dante, shown here with his ribbon.
Brooklynne took 4th place with Bandito in Market Class #3.
Bayley took 1st place with Rainier (Gold Rush) here in Market Class #4. Kolby and Spencer are holding the wether for Bayley here with her ribbon.
Taylor took Reserve Grand Champion with her Intermediate Breeding Doe Bolt and is shown here with her ribbon.
Kolby took third place with his buck Hunky Monkey, but than came back to win Grand Champion Get of Sire with Monkey and his daughter Peep.
Here is Kolby holding Peep with Hailey holding Hunky Monkey and Gerald holding their ribbon. Congratulations Kolby—that’s one fine buck you have there!
The Big Finale
The finale and crowning achievement at the fair had us on our feet!
In the Market Class #5, Bayley won first place with Harry.
That win entitled her to enter Harry to win Grand Champion, Best Of Mesa County. And guess what? They did it!
After receiving her ribbon, Bayley presented Gerald and I with the banner for Best of Mesa County Market Goat Producer.
This is the third year in a row that we have won this award. It really makes all the hard work worthwhile!
Congratulations to Bayley for all her wins as she now ages out of showing at Mesa County Fair. We will miss you!
Thank you to all of our loyal customers that come back to us each year for their 4H goats. We really love watching the kids take these babies and do so well with them at the summer fairs. It’s a great experience for all involved, and we look forward to seeing you all again next year.
