Gerald and I have really been busy. With the new goats we have purchased, we have had to build new pens to keep them separated and new barns to provide them with some shelter.
First of all, Gerald built a barn for Calamity Jane and Geisha (above). Two of our newest girls, they weren’t really appreciating the wind and rain this spring, so we figured they deserved their own little apartment.
Next, he fixed a barn for our yearlings (above), who are now enjoying a brand new big pen. It reminds us of college apartments, with some living on one side of the panel and some on the other. Sometimes at night we think we hear sounds of some real partying going on up there.
When we finished that barn, Gerald decided we needed to have a new barn for Balance, our prize buck from Keenesburg.
So he started on that and has just finished it up (above). As you can tell, it’s definitely a fancy bachelor pad, including a nice attached awning-like cover for shade. Fortunately, Balance keeps it pretty clean—unusual for a single fellow. We haven’t even found a television or remote…so far.
As you can see, Balance is really enjoying it!
We also made a new pen for Stella, who came to us from Kickin A Ranch in Austin, Colorado. Her pen is an extension of an already existing barn, so she was all set as far as her shelter went. She is enjoying being by herself as she is bred to an ennobled buck out of California—Git R Done.
Our best looking young buck of the season—Sophia’s Clint Eastwood (pictured below)—recently showed us that he’s ready to do his job of breeding the girls.
Since we aren’t ready for him to do that quite yet, we needed to—you’ve got it—build another pen! We were able to complete that task attaching the pen to the already existing barn, so Clint has his shelter as well.
Since our buck Pete has seniority on the ranch and has been ever so unhappy with the acquisition of Balance, we decided that Pete needed to have his own pen out away from the herd. (Here he is discussing the matter with Gerald.)
We put his new pen out by the horse corral where he no longer has to bang his head against the fence in protest to Balance being next door! After all—there is just not enough Tylenol to go around!
Nice abodes! Not a single one of those young adults needs to complaint about their housing. They should be comfortable and happy, especially since they don’t even have to share space. Very fortunate for them and I hope they appreciate your goodness.
