We’ve never bought an animal sight unseen. The risk has always seemed too great. It’s like online dating. The person may have a great profile and dynamite picture, but then you meet them in person and discover they’ve really changed since that picture was taken—and not for the better, if you know what we mean!
The same thing can happen when you’re shopping for new animals—they can look great in a picture, but in person, sometimes they just don’t live up to our expectations.
Over our many years of raising animals, we’ve said many times that we would never buy one without checking it out in person. Dogs, pigs, goats, cows, horses—even rabbits, chickens, turkeys and geese—we wanted to see them first!
Well, as they say, never say never. A few months ago, we broke our rule and bought a registered 100% Boer doe sight unseen. Of course, we knew that with the breeder’s reputation and expertise on Boer goats (thanks to Erica from kickinaranch.com!), this would be a good doe, but still, we were pleasantly surprised when we saw her.
Stella—which means “Star” in Italian—is out of 2Dox Stellar Reward, and like her name, she is a young star in the making. We purchased her back in November, but then waited for her to mature so she could be bred to California buck Git R Done. We have just recently brought her home and she is everything we hoped she would be and more.
Due at the end of August, Stella is gradually getting used to her new home. We are really eager to see her babies in the fall. Check back for pictures!
